Numero Uno
New blog, first entry. It’s September 8th, 2021. Almost twenty years since 9/11. I’ll be revisiting that item in the near future.
This morning was a roundtrip from Omaha to Des Moines, leaving with two passengers and returning empty. The sky was glowing in the east as we arrived in Des Moines, then as I left the sun peeked over the horizon and followed me in my rearview mirror.
I had two passengers with me, they chose to snooze during the two hour trip across; leaving me to my thoughts, the traffic and the music I had on my playlist. I started out leaving Omaha with a general selection of favorites; classic rock & roll with some movie/Broadway tunes mixed in. As I was leaving Des Moines on the return trip I switched over to bluegrass.
My favorite song of the day, Old Number Seven by the group The Devil Makes Three. Good foot-stomping stuff, lively as all hell.
After I left work I stopped by the Lewis & Clark Memorial overlooking Omaha from the eastern side of the Missouri River, just north of Council Bluffs Iowa, and took this photo. I think this is a good introduction to the city of Omaha, a mid-sized city on a river, in the middle of the Great Plains. In the foreground you’ve got I-29 running parallel to the Missouri River, just beyond that the river itself. Beyond that there is Eppley Airfield on the right side, the city in the distance.
